Es Grau and S'Albufera des Grau. A short drive north of Mahón leads to this protected wetland and pine-backed cove. Roads narrow near the village, so a compact convertible or SUV handles the approach and roadside parking better than a larger grand tourer.

Cap de Favàritx and the north coast. The route out to the lighthouse crosses open, slate-grey terrain unlike the rest of the island. An SUV with good ground clearance suits the final unpaved stretch, and the drive works well timed for late afternoon light.

Ciutadella and the west coast. The cross-island road to Ciutadella takes under an hour and rewards a car with real motorway comfort. Parking near the old port is limited, so arriving early or leaving the car at a hotel a short walk from the centre works best.

South coast coves near Cala en Porter. Several unmarked turnoffs lead to smaller calas along this stretch, often reached via narrow farm tracks. A car with tighter turning circles and reasonable clearance makes these detours practical rather than stressful.

Fornells and the northern bay. Fornells sits roughly forty minutes from Mahón and draws a sailing crowd, with restaurants along the water. The town itself is small enough to walk once parked, making it a natural stop for lunch before continuing along the coast road.
